Fundraising
Why do we need to fundraise? This is the fundamental question that all parents have in
the back of their minds as they get started in the public school system - especially
with all of the property taxes that we pay each year. The funding to the school districts
does a great job of covering our buildings, teachers' salaries, adminstration of the
district, books, and other necessities. But lost in that are some much needed student
enrichment programs and community building activities that make the overall learning
environment what it needs to be for all of our kids. The answer to this question comes
right from the very mission statement of the PTA... "to develop between educators and
the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the
highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education." In order to
carry out our mission, we must raise funds - but fundraising is NOT our mission. The
funds we receive are put to use for student programs, teacher resources, family-focused
activities, and school improvements.
The PTA's fundraising strategy is driven by the basic assumption that more is less, and
less is more. We work hard to try and develop a streamlined fundraising calendar, which
is more evident this coming year as we are consolidating events and trying to make the
key fundraisers we do more effective. Also, we are trying to eliminate the constant
"noise" created in everyone's mind by too frequent requests for money. Keep in mind that
not all of these come from the PTA, but you are presented with requests by schools,
churches, community organizations, and sports teams - among others. There are five
basic types of fundraising that the Green Elementary PTA will do this year.
Active product fundraisers - the PTA will be offering for sale
coupon books and catalogue items, which provide you with value (via a quality product
for sale), and they provide the PTA with a reasonable income opportunity at a reasonable
effort.

Community-based fundraisers - these don't cost you any money, for
the funding is typically coming from community businesses and partners - such as the
grocery programs, restaurant programs, directory advertising and Box Tops for Education.

Service fundraisers - the PTA offers the Beacon Hill & Twin Creeks
communities an opportunity for an annual Garage Sale - since no garage sales are allowed
due to Home Owners' Association rules.

Educational fundraisers - the Fall & Spring Book Fairs provide
your students a great selection of books at very reasonable prices, and they encourage
our youngsters to read! Also, our Spirit Store offers great spirit wear at very
reasonable prices - and it promotes school spirit for all.
Book Fair

Event fundraiser - the annual Dinner, Raffle & Family Dance is an
event you don't want to miss - this is our major fundraiser, for most of the items
raffled are obtained via donations from our Green families & local businesses - and it is
a great time to get together to mingle with your neighborhood friends.
Fall Carnival
Please browse through the rest of the web site to look for details on each of the
fundraising activities that we do and the programs that we support. We also give you
the opportunity to Opt Out
of the fall fundraisers by giving you the option to donate
directly to the PTA. Without our
fundraisers, programs like Accelerated Reader, Teacher Resources, Field Day,
6th Grade Party, Staff Appreciation, Go Van Gogh and Arts in Education would not be
possible. The PTA brings families into the school with events like Family Art Night,
the Fall Dinner & Raffle, and other Thursday night Programs
put on throughout the year.
As you can see, the PTA is very involved in the enrichment of the educational environment
by building closer bonds among the students, parents and teachers. Thank you for all of
your support, and please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.
